| Shelburne Farms |
|
January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008 Shelburne Farms is a membership-supported, nonprofit environmental education center and National Historic Landmark on the shores of Lake Champlain in Shelburne, Vermont. Our mission is to cultivate a conservation ethic. Schoolchildren, adults, educators and families come here to learn, while casual visitors may enjoy the walking trails, children’s farmyard, inn, restaurant, property tours and special events. The farm serves as an educational resource by practicing rural land use that is environmentally, economically and culturally sustainable.
Shelburne Farms was created in 1886 by William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb as a model agricultural estate. In 1972, it was founded as an educational nonprofit. Our nearly 400 acres of sustainably managed woodlands received Green Certification from the Forest Stewardship Council in 1998. Our grass-based dairy supports a herd of 125 purebred, registered Brown Swiss cows. Their milk is transformed into our award-winning farmhouse cheddar cheese right here on the property.
Please check the website to see what activities will be available during the time of your stay, there are your-round events from sleigh rides, to be a farmer for a day, and the restaurant is first class!

| Ski-and-Shoot Biathlon |
|
March 14, 2008 The Biathlon is a Winter Olympic event that combines the sport of cross-country ski racing with rifle marksmanship. It's one of the most popular winter sports in Europe. Yet it remains relatively obscure in the United States. Cross-country ski enthusiasts in the northeastern state of Vermont are trying to change that and generate more interest in both cross-country skiing and events like the biathlon. They've found the best way is to start young -- and throw in some paint.

| Vermont to Stock Waters with "Trophy" Fish and more! |
|
April 24, 2008 through May 20, 2008 This year will be continuing our "trophy" fish stocking. The trophy program increases the number of Trophy fish stocked to almost 25,000 statewide. Nearly 30 miles of trophy water will be available for angling this season in Vermont. This is in addition to 36 ponds and lakes receiving about 25% of the fish stocked as trophy fish. So if you enjoy catching big fish this should be an exciting year.
Inland waters of Vermont will be stocked with over 364,000 yearling landlocked salmon, brook, brown, lake and rainbow trout. This area encompasses over 500 miles of streams and rivers, and over 70,000 acres of lakes and ponds.
Lake Champlain will receive almost 250,000 yearling landlocked salmon, steelhead, brown, lake, and rainbow trout this year. And over 160,000 landlocked salmon fry will be stocked this year as well.
So whether you're wading a small stream, canoeing a mountain pond or trolling on Lake Champlain the opportunity to have a productive day on the water will be very good this year in Vermont.
